A Palantir Foundry Missile component sourcing application integrating AIP to streamline replacing military grade with dual-use components

The United States is facing a missile shortage during one of the most critical conflicts of this decade, sharply limiting US military options, weakening leverage in negotiations and even threatening a PRC invasion of Taiwan. Missile component supply chains, which require bespoke, rare, and highly-sophisticated parts with extensive lead times, are unsuited for the current battlefield space, which prioritizes precise mass, the ability to mass produce cheap and scalable platforms, such as the LUCAS drone.

To help streamline this workflow and accelerate component diversification, we designed CompOS, a missile component sourcing application integrating AIP to accelerate replacing military grade with dual-use components. Using DigiKey API for baseline component data enriched with pricing from OctoPart API, the Foundry application compares commercial components with specifications for the Patriot missile, assessing the delta between the military-grade and dual-use component. Subsequently, the Foundry application equips the missile manufacturing company sourcing officer with a dashboard of all replacement parts, a visual overview of replacement candidates supplemented by AI summary and trade-off summary, followed by an action window, enabling the sourcing officer to directly replace the component in the assembly chain, feeding back into the backend database and changing the requirements for the whole system. Finally, to streamline purchasing and communication, the application features a 3-step guided AIP workflow, with an AIP agent writing and editing the email based on instruction, and finally integrates with email to allow for communication with an email client.

This application brings siloed public data on replacement and original components into one application, where, powered by AIP, the sourcing officer can review, assess, and replace a component in a matter of minutes, streamlining the substitution process and allowing US industry to rapidly scale its missile production.
